TakeShape is shutting down
Every project becomes inaccessible on January 16th, 2027.
TakeShape shuts down on January 15, 2027. From January 16th, 2027, your projects, their APIs and their images are inaccessible, and on January 31st, 2027, we delete them. Export anything you want to keep before the shutdown.
Key dates
- December 15, 2026
- Finish migrating, so you have a month to test before the shutdown.
- January 15, 2027
- TakeShape shuts down, and it's the last day to export. From January 16th, 2027, every project, its API and its images are inaccessible.
- January 31st, 2027
- We delete all projects, data, and images.
Export your projects
Export each project with its data. In the web app, open Project Settings and select Export This Project. You get a ZIP holding your schema (schema.json) and every entry and asset record (data.jsonl). Keep it somewhere safe: it is your backup after January 15, 2027.
The CLI exports the same ZIP:
npm i -g @takeshape/cli
takeshape login
takeshape link
takeshape export --project --to ./takeshape-exportWith the API, run the exportProject mutation, then poll getProjectExport until its status is completed and it returns a download URL.
The ZIP lists your images and files but does not contain them. They become inaccessible on TakeShape's CDN on January 16th, 2027, so anything that copies them has to finish by January 15, 2027.
Move CMS projects to EmDash
If you use TakeShape as a CMS, we recommend EmDash, an open source CMS for Astro from Cloudflare. EmDash's documentation covers setup and hosting. Aim to finish moving by December 15, 2026, so you have a month to test.
Our migration guides and scripts are on GitHub at takeshape/takeshape-migration. They convert a TakeShape export into EmDash content, and move a website built with takeshape-ssg to an Astro site on EmDash.
API mesh projects
Your project's API becomes inaccessible on January 16th, 2027, so every site, app and service that calls it stops getting data. Export these projects with the steps above and move those calls before then.
Agent projects
Agents run in the same runtime and on the same project API as the API mesh, so they stop working when that API becomes inaccessible on January 16th, 2027. Export these projects with the steps above. To rebuild your agents, we recommend Mastra, a TypeScript framework for AI agents, or LangChain, an agent framework for Python and JavaScript.
